Nothing ever seems to get done...

Do you ever have one of those days when you feel like you got nothing done at all?? I feel like I've been having one of those weeks.

I've been trying to sell the monster's crib and some of her clothes because we don't have the storage space and every time I try to schedule someone to come pick them up, they never show. Heck, I offered her dresser for free and the woman bailed 4 times. I finally told her forget it. So most of last week was spent waiting for a bunch of no shows.

We bought M a shelf for her room that we have yet to put up (or me to paint for that matter).

I did take M for a walk on Thursday, but I didn't get dishes or laundry done all week.... well, I did do 1 load, but most of those are dirty again already.

Saturday I cleaned a bit. In fact, the living & dining rooms were spotless... but if you walked into our apartment today? Yeah, there's stuff everywhere again. It's so hard keeping a place clean with a toddler and 2 cats (and a husband). I did make M a new outfit though (a peasant top and shorts).

And today we drove 2 hours north, visited J's family for a few hours and then drove 2 hours home. I was going to do laundry this evening, but I'm exhausted! How can someone be exhausted when they haven't done anything all weekend? I had so much I wanted to get done today... laundry, dishes, clean M's room, put away her outgrown clothes, get a cover for the sewing machine (she likes to pull the thread off), make a dress and a few more tops (I ran out of thread)...


I think I need a personal day.

Some people are real jerks

So here I am really proud of myself this week because I lost another 1.6lbs. Almost hitting a 15lbs loss. That's really good for 12 weeks, right? 3 months. 5lbs a month. A little over 1lb a week.

Well, I went to take M for a walk in her wagon. Even better - a 25 minute walk and I was pulling the wagon with her in it... by myself. Yay for exercise. I was proud of myself for that, too.

And some jerk in a car drives by, rolls down his window and shouts 'Damn, look at that big ass bitch'.

Now here I am.

Sitting on my couch.

Crying.

Why?

Because some jerk called me fat. And it's the first time I've been called fat in 12 years.

Thanks for ruining my day, jerk.

I'd really like to go eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's now. :(

WOOHOO! I will definitely take a 1.6 lbs loss! I can't tell you what I did this last week because honestly, I didn't do much. I haven't been keeping track of my calories as diligently as I was - I've just been keeping a running tally in my head each day. I didn't work out much either, but we did walk around Ikea for 2.5 hours on Saturday and then I did an hour of food shopping at Target on Sunday. So maybe that was it?

I'm going to be a little short on my goal for this month. I still have 5.5 lbs to go and only about a week left. Hopefully I can at least get close this time!

Go to sleep little girl

Last night, the monster woke up at 2am crying. Since she's in her toddler bed now, she gets out of her room and stands in our doorway until I tell her to come in or go get her. So I got her and put her back in bed. After 20 minutes, she was still wide awake, so I put on Nick Jr (yes, we have a television in her room). I don't normally condone Oobi (I hate that freaking show with all the baby talk), but I was tired, so I went back to bed.

My cousin loved Oobi when he was little, too. It drives me insane.
 Another 5 minutes goes by and she's back in our room crying and carrying her little pillow pet. So, I do the mommy thing and let her come cuddle in bed with us. For a while she was fine. She stroked my arm. She kissed Daddy. But by 2:45am, she's still wide awake.

And that's when it started.

My eyes start to close. My thoughts start to drift.

Maaaaaah maaaaah

I look over and she's staring at me with a big grin.

Nah nah, mah mah
(night night mama)

Good night, M

Maaaamaaa, nah nah

Go to sleep, baby

MAMA NAH NAH

And over and over it went. If I didn't respond, she got right up over my face and shouted it louder at me. Daddy tried cuddling her, but she got upset, got out of the bed, walked around to my side (she was in the middle) and climbed in next to me. Then she drank my entire bottle of water.

It wasn't until 4am that she finally fell back asleep.
And guess who had to wake up at 5:30 for work this morning.
That's right.
Mommy.

This really kills me....

A few years ago, my husband and I were in a really tough spot. We had just found out that I was pregnant and I had just graduated from college and moved back home. I found a website called Wish Upon A Hero and they were my lifesavers. If you've never heard of that site before, it is a place where people can go and make wishes. Other members and the organization both can offer to grant these wishes. They bought me and my husband an entire Thanksgiving dinner that year and we also received a very generous package of baby items for when the Monster was born.

From time to time, I still visit WUAH to see if I can pay it forward a bit. Today I came across a wish from a woman who has granted 76 other people's wishes. She's only made a few requests - most of them not even for herself. Yesterday, she posted a new wish. It details how her family has had a very trying last few months. Her hours at work were reduced, her husband lost her job. All 3 of their young children have medical issues and her disabled mother live with her. She also had to be admitted to the hospital ruptured cyst. And on top of all of that, they are about to be evicted from their apartment (on Thursday). They've found a church willing to donate $100 to them, but that's it.

This is the woman and her husband. The top 3 children are theirs.

And you know what really kills me the most? NO ONE has offered to help her at all. All of those people she helped. All of those wishes she's granted and no one will even donate a dollar to her.

So if anyone can donate a dollar or two to her, spread the word or even just keep this woman and her family in their thoughts, that would really be fantastic. You can visit her wish here and if you'd like to donate a dollar to this poor woman, there is a donation link there.

A little weight loss motivation

I was looking at pictures the other day (of me) and I'm really starting to see the difference!! I feel more motivated when I compare and I wanted to share with you!

April 2009
It looks like my boobs and my belly are 1 entity

August 2009
My belly is bigger than my boobs and at that time I was a DDD!

April 2010
Belly is now about the same size as my chest. Sides slimmed down a bit, back fat started going away

June 2010
Belly now slightly smaller than chest. I can see my hip curves.

August 2010
Belly still slightly smaller than chest, sides curved in a lot.


My arms & chest are still way bigger than I'd like, but I can definitely notice my waist & stomach areas going down a bit. And just for good measure... here are my goal motivation pictures.

You see how loose that blue sweatshirt USED to be?! That's the same one from the April 2010 picture!!!

I really sucked at keeping up with my exercise and dieting this week. Aunt Ruby is visiting this week and if that isn't bad enough, I've been craving junk food like no other. Sunday, we went to my friend's Bon Voyage party (he's going to France for the next year). And while I didn't eat a lot of junk food, I did have 3 cans of soda. Tuesday, we got Chinese for lunch at work and it made my sick. I did okay Wednesday. I didn't count calories all week.

So after all that and have a terrible weight loss week, I think I did pretty well. I didn't gain anything and that's a good thing. I'm going to work harder this upcoming week, but in the meantime, I'm feeling ok with my maintaining last week's weight.

Toddler + Cold Weather = ?

With fall and winter fast approaching, I've been looking into things that we can do with the Princess this year that is relatively cheap. She's a big fan of the playground and slides, but when the weather turns cold, we aren't going to be able to take her much. There isn't much space in our small apartment, so I've been wondering....

What do you do with your toddler in the cold weather?

The museums around us are expensive. We have a season pass to the zoo, but we won't be able to do that in the snow. The aquarium is nearly $30 for 1 adult. There's 1 indoor playground that's decent, but it's a 25 minute drive and even then, we can't afford $7 every day to take her there. She still has school, but they won't be going outside in the snow & rain either.

I wish we had an extra room in our apartment that I could make a little indoor playground for her, but we just don't have any extra space. So I've been considering getting rid of her dresser (I could put her clothes in her closet) and getting a little slide for her room. Just something small, like this....


In case you haven't seen her room, it's not tiny, but it's not huge. It currently looks something like this...

We recently replaced her crib with a new toddler bed and the stickers on the wall moved. The activity table to the left of the crib was replaced with her Elmo chair & a circular table & chair set.

So as you can see, there isn't much space in the room. The middle of her floor is pretty open, but I like to leave her some room to run around in. I'd love to re-do her room all together. Right now, the only thing we can get rid of to make more space is her dresser (since we still use the changing table). But to get rid of her dresser, we're going to need to clean out her closet (which is a small walk in), but our apartment lacks storage space, so we're going to need to figure out where to put everything.

What do you think? Would you get rid of your child's dresser and replace it with a slide? What else do you think I could do to revamp the Monster's room for a little bit of extra space, storage and fall/winter play?

Bubble Bloomers & Appliqued T-Shirt (+ mini tute)

Earlier this week I was accepted to be a pattern tester for Whimsy Couture's new Bubble Bloomers pattern! I did them in a size 3T for her and I have to tell you, this is one of the easiest things I've ever made. The pattern is only 2 pieces, so you're done very quickly.


I used Michael Miller's Eiffel Tower fabric in blue and for 3T, I used way less than 1/2 a yard of fabric. Since I had a lot left, I cut out one of the Eiffel Towers and created an applique for her t-shirt. This was perfect since we were going to a Bon Voyage party for one of our friends today. M was a hit! Everyone loved the outfit.



The applique was super easy to do. I cut out a rectangular shape in my leftover fabric, used a tight zig zag stitch around all of the edges and then used Heat & Bond and ironed the piece on to the t-shirt. Voila - instant applique!


 It was my first time working with elastic thread, but I wasn't scared at all! It was actually really easy and I can't wait to work with it again. I can't wait to make more of these bloomers, too. They're adorable!

Pink & Shabby Chic

This evening, I created a new treasury over on Etsy. For those of you who don't know, my daughter's middle name is Rose. Every time I think of her name, I imagine having her room decorated in some beautiful shabby chic patterns with little rose buds everywhere. Of course, we don't really have the money to do that right now (and we're in a small apartment anyway), so it's going to have to wait until she's a little bit older. Hopefully, she'll still let me decorate her room at that point!

Even though I was frustrated to the point of crying in bed last week, I'm glad that I kept up my routine. A 2.4 weight loss is the best I've done in the last 10 weeks! I began keeping daily intake logs to keep track of the number of calories going into my body every day. I did one of those online estimates of how many calories you eat per day to maintain your current weight and mine was a little more than 2000. So I cut it by 500 and made my daily goal no more than 1500 calories.

Thursday - 1017 calories
Friday - 1843.67
Saturday - 1061.62
[I didn't keep a written log Sunday, but it was around 1350]
Monday - 1523.79
Tuesday - 1307
Wednesday - 1060

So I only went over twice (and only once significantly). I'm pretty pleased with that. Obviously I did something right this week.
