Wordless Wednesday - My Dream Home

It has 3 floors and an elevator. ♥ And yes, it's actually for sale. So if anyone wants to lend me $4.9 million, I'd love to buy it! NOTE: 4.9 is reduced from 6.3 (because it makes such a huge difference)

What does your dream home look like?

Welcome to create our own brand new Tuesday Tutorials linky! If you'd like to join, just follow the simple steps below.
  • Add a link below to a specific blog post not your main blog address
  • Please only link up a project that is new to this party. Your post does not need to be new but it must be something that you have not linked up to this party before on a previous week.
  • Grab the party button and put it up on your blog using the code above.
  • Do NOT link up giveaways, Etsy shops or other similar websites (they will be removed).
  • Do NOT link up a post that references another tutorial; your link should be to your actual tutorial.
  • Make someone's day by commenting on their blog post.
If you have a really great tutorial, I may ask you to guest blog for me!

Weekend Wind Down - 13 Weekends of Summer Edition

Are you going to, or did you already, take a summer vacation this year... to where?

Unfortunately, J doesn't have vacation time yet (since he just started his new job a little over 2 weeks ago). So there are no vacations planned for us this summer. We are, however, getting married July 24 and staying down the shore that weekend. So I guess that counts as a mini-vacation?

What about you guys?? Any great summer vacations planned?

If you've never linked up for the "Weekend Wind Down" before, here's how you can join in the fun:
* Become a follower of both hosts - Susie B Homemaker and Marvelous Mommy
* Write your blog post on the theme or copy and paste the questions listed. Make sure the “Weekend Wind Down” Button is visible somewhere in the post
* Link up your “Weekend Wind Down” post using the McLinky. You will only need to link up once to be seen on all the Blog Hops. (Please link to your actual “Weekend Wind Down” post, NOT your main blog page)

Fabric Backed Invitations & Tutorial

Ok, so I absolutely could not put off showing you guys my wedding invitations any longer.

The backs are backed with fabric, making them extra lovely.

See? We picked a fabric that had a nice water-looking effect since we're getting married on the beach.
My long-time friend Crystal from CrystalCierlak.com designed the image portion of the invite (with my help, of course!). The original color of the damask that she picked was this really pretty seafoam green/teal blue (see original backside image below), but my printer refused to print in that color, even though I changed the ink cartridges. So I ended up with those blues that you see and that's ok because I love them, too! I told Crystal exactly how I wanted the invite set up and she gave me just that. I love the little seahorses, too (my idea - in case you didn't know, seahorses mate for life. So to me, they symbolize a lifelong commitment to your partner).

My original plan was to use the image that Crystal created for me and the backside that she created for me (see above or click the link for full size), but my printer kept refusing to line up properly. No matter how hard I tried, my printer would just not put the backside on correctly. And when I finally got it to line up, it kept printing it blurry! So I gave up on the backside, even though I ADORE the little logo. I'm thinking that I might use it for my thank you notes instead. When I gave up on the backside, I wanted to cry because the invitations looked so ugly blank on the back. So I headed over to Joann's & found a pack of 'seaside' colored cardstock. Perfect! So now the backs weren't an ugly white, but they were still going to be plain and that bothered me. I started thinking and it came to me... fabric backs! It was such a great idea, I didn't know why I didn't think of it before.

So I got all of my pieces together. I trimmed my invitation piece down to around 4"x6". I cut my seaside cardstock to 5"x7" and I cut my 'water stained' fabric (it was actually a really pretty batik that I found on sale) just the tiniest bit bigger than that.

Next, I used some double-sided tape and carefully placed it around the edges of the back of the invite. I even more carefully centered it on the cardstock. Then I stacked that on top of the fabric and fed it through my sewing machine. I used a seafoam green thread and my regular sewing needle. I used a regular straight stitch. A few of the invites didn't have perfectly straight lines, but I think they sort of look like waves. I like it.

I still thought the front of the invitation looked a little plain, but I found some Martha Stewart sticker bows (though you could make your own) in green, grey and blue on clearance at Walmart for like $1 for a pack of 24. They matched perfectly!

So lets re-cap.

For this project, you will need:
+ Your invitation
+ Cardstock cut slightly larger than your invite
NOTE: You want your cardstock to be cut to your final desired size,
so make sure your invite is a little smaller than that.
+ Fabric cut slightly larger than your cardstock
+ Thread in a coordinating color
+ Double-sided tape
+ Any other accessories you may want to add
1. Design or have someone design your invitation (can be wedding, birthday, baptism, anything!). Make sure that it is slightly smaller than your desired final size. I wanted my invites to be 5"x7", so I trimmed my invites down to 4"x6".
2. Carefully cut your cardstock in your final size & cut your fabric slightly larger than that (you will trim it later).
3. Carefully center & attach your invite to your cardstock using double-sided tape.
TIP: Attach the tape to the back of the invite & then center and press it onto the cardstock.
4. Stack the invite on top of your fabric (you want the wrong side of the fabric touching the cardstock and the right side facing away). Stitch the pieces together, leaving some space between your stitches and the edge of the cardstock. This will allow for the fabric to fray over time, creating a very cool effect. Don't forget to go forward and back at your start and end point.
NOTE: If your invitation itself is designed in such a way that you can stitch on top of that instead of on top of the cardstock, that could create a really awesome look, too!

5. Add any accessories your want to to your invitation. I added little Martha Stewart bow stickers, but you could choose anything! If your fabric has a really pretty flower or something, you could try cutting that out and sew it on to the front of your invite like an applique. I was going to do this if I could find a good fabric with fish, sand dollars or seashells or something, but I was running out of time and couldn't find anything that I loved.

And that's it! You're done!

Weekly Weigh In - Week 3

Last Week

This Week
I've gained 2 lbs and I am not a happy camper at all. In fact, I'm pretty upset about it because I tried really hard this week. I checked my measurements, too, just to see... and nothing. They're the same. :( I'm really hoping that it's because Aunt Ruby wants to come visit soon. :\

I'm starting to feel like I'm never going to make my goals. I seem to be stuck around 205lbs this month (give or take a lb or 2). I've been eating less and healthier. I've been drinking WAY more water (last week I was at 2-3 cups per day, this week I'm around 4-5 cups per day) and yet, I've gained 2lbs? I think it's starting to depress me and I know that's only going to make it worse.

Goals
Starting Weight: 211.8
Current Weight: 205
Weight Loss Goal by July 31: 185lbs
Left to Go to Make Goal: 20lbs
Weight Loss Goal by October 31: 170lbs
Weight Loss Goal by December 31: 160lbs
Weight Loss Goal by February 28: 140lbs
Other Goals: drink more water/drink less soda, eat healthier

Teach Me Tuesday - Crock Pot Chicken & Mushrooms in Gravy

I have to tell you that this was the best chicken & gravy that I've ever eaten. The best part? The gravy creates itself! The funny thing is, I hate mushrooms and gravy. hahaha.

What you need:
3 frozen chicken breasts
1 pack of mushrooms
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can of water
1 packet dry onion soup mix (I used Liptons)
Onion powder

1. Sprinkle onion powder on the bottom of your crock pot (I covered the entire bottom.
2. Empty can of cream of mushroom soup into the crock pot, use the can to measure out a copy of water and add that, too.
3. Add frozen chicken breast & sliced mushrooms to the mix
4. Sprinkle onion soup mix on top.
5. Cover your pot, turn it on low and walk away. I cooked mine from the time I left for work (around 6:30am) until I got home (around 5:00), but I've also cooked it on low for 6-8 hours before (just make sure the chicken separates easily and is thoroughly cooked). If you keep it in longer, like I did, the flavors will absorb more into the meat.

Just Something I Whipped Up - Appliqued Shirt & Onesie

Viv over at Creative Minds just gave birth to her second son on Thursday (I saw pictures, he's adorable). Today, I finished up one of her gifts. Don't worry, she already knows about it, so it's not a secret! I have to say that the matching brother set I made them is one of my favorite things, though I can't believe how incredibly difficult it is to applique a onesie!

I love how cute they look! I think they're going to look great on the boys and I can't wait to see pictures of them in their new shirts!

How did I make these??? Easy! First, I headed over to Crap I've Made and downloaded her tie applique pattern. This size was perfect for the onesie! For the larger one, I just made the tie bigger (I think I added about a 1/2 inch to all sides).

My mistake with the onesie was not attaching it there first. With the shirt, I smartened up and picked up some fusible tape. I placed it on the shirt where I wanted the tie to go, put the tie pieces on top and ironed it together! This made the sewing process MUCH easier.

Next, I used my sewing machine to make 3 rounds on straight stitches around the entire tie (including the part where the 'knot' attaches to the tie portion). Then I went ahead with an interlocking stitch (you could also use your serger) and went over top of the stitches. These babies will not be coming apart any time soon. You could make your stitches on the edge of the applique, but I chose to do it inside a bit. This way, as it washes, the edges will get this great frayed look!

And that's it, all done!

My first hate mail

So on Fridays, I like to participate in New Friend Friday (and sometimes another one or two, but usually just NFF). If you've never joined NFF, please visit The Girl Creative this upcoming Friday and join in! It's a great way to find new blogs and meet new people.

That being said, the guidelines of the blog hop are pretty clear.
* Add a link to your main blog
* Visit the blog of the person whose name is above and below your name in the list and comment on their blog.
* Visit as many blogs as you can and leave comments telling them you are visiting from New Friend Friday at The Girl Creative.
* There is no obligation to follow everyone who follows you. Please just follow the blogs that are of interest to you. :)
* Family Friendly Blogs ONLY please. Explicit sites will be removed.

So today I got a pretty hateful comment because I've commented on this woman's blog a few times, but have never 'followed' her. I don't know how you guys follow people, but I only like a few blogs to show in my feed. Any other blog that I 'follow', I tend to either memorize the url or I put it in my favorites. That way it's not crowding my feed, but I can still return to it at my leisure (these being mostly giveaway/review blogs). I'm sorry, but I don't need to read your reviews/blog hops/giveaways every day. I prefer to save them for one day and then go through all of them.

Now, this woman's blog even describes itself as "a place for posting about blog giveaways from other sites that I find interesting, and for posting about my other chosen topics of interest". Anyway, here is the email I received today:

Hi Dani,
I have noticed that you have visited my blog a couple of times on Friday Follows and left a comment but not a follow. I've also noticed that you have been doing this with several bloggers who do not check. It pretty much looks like you're just trying to build your numbers.
If that's what you are doing it probably would not go over very well with some people (like me). It's just not cool and the blogging community does monitor itself somewhat.
I don't mind your not following, but don't leave a comment that gives the impression you are participating in the blog hop process; at least on my blog. In fact I respectfully request you not leave more comments to my blog hop posts.
Thanks.

Ok, so not only does this email tell me that you don't read the guidelines of New Friend Friday (which state you should comment as much as possible, but you're under no obligation to follow), but they're demanding that I either comment & follow them or don't comment at all. Ok, fine, I won't comment at all. If the woman who wrote me this email is reading right now, here is my message to you.

Dear Angry Blogger,

If you want me to follow your blog, please add more content than blog hops and giveaways from other sites on your blog. It'd also be nice if you read the guidelines of the blog hop before you participate and send me harassing emails because I didn't follow you.

Thanks,
Me

Do you guys ever get hate mail? Do you ignore it or do you respond? I really feel kind of insulted by her email... but maybe I'm taking it to hard. I contacted the head of the blog hop, not that it's her fault or that she can do anything, but I just hope that this woman isn't sending other bloggers the same angry emails!

Weekly Weigh In - Week 2

Ok, week 2! I wasn't feeling too well this week (and I'm still not), so I didn't get to exercise as much as I'd hoped. I really need to get over whatever stomach thing this is so that I can get my rear in gear.

I took pictures this time from my wii! Here's my weight from 6/13 (almost a week ago).

You see that spike??? I was up to 206.6lbs this week :(

And today!! So I've lost around 2.5 lbs (3.6 if you count that spike).

I do have to say that when I started the Wii Fit, I was done to 202.2...

I like to think that the .8lbs gain is actually muscle gain.

Long Term Goals
Starting Weight: 211.8
Current Weight: 203
Weight Loss Goal by July 31: 185lbs
Left to Go to Make Goal: 18lbs
Weight Loss Goal by October 31: 170lbs
Weight Loss Goal by December 31: 160lbs
Weight Loss Goal by February 28: 140lbs
Other Goals: Drink more water/drink less soda

Goals Re-Cap
WATER: This week, I did manage to drink more water. In a typical week, there are days when I fail to have even 1 cup of water. It's hard for me, especially when I work from the office, because half the time our water cooler water is warm (the thing that makes it cold is temperamental). I managed to drink 2-3 cups per day most days this week (I think I missed 1 or 2). I know that that's not what I'm supposed to be drinking per day, but I feel that it's a big improvement from 0 cups per day.

WEIGHT LOSS: I've lost 2.5lbs since Sunday and I've gained .8lbs since last Monday. I think that this is okay. I'm a little disappointed in myself because I hate that I was almost done to 202 and now I'm up almost a pound from that. Hopefully I won't be as sick this week and I'll be able to do a little more working out.

EATING HEALTHIER: I've been trying. This one is the most difficult because my boss buys us lunch whenever we work in the office. Usually, it's from some local pizza place. So I've been trying. Instead of getting a large cheese steak and fries, I get a small hoagie (aka sub or hero) or a slice of pizza. This one is going to be a hard one to kick.

This Week's Goals
This week I would like to increase my water intake from 2 glasses a day to 3 or 4 glasses per day.
I'd also like to lose 3lbs this week.

Teach Me Tuesday - Blog Signature

Well, I did it! I finally figured out how to get my signature to work the way I wanted it to. Now I'd like to teach you how!

Step 1: Create your signature image
You can do this in your art program or you can use an online signature creator like My Live Signature or Font Image Generator. Both programs are free to use and you don't even need to register, but I've found that My Live Signature works best on solid color backgrounds (even the transparent ones). For mine, I used Font Image Generator, but for Rose over at 2KuteKreations, I used the My Live Signature.

If you use MLS, they have a Wizard that walks you through all of the steps. It's very simple to use, but the transparent image just didn't work right on my blog. FIG is a little less user friendly, but this one seems to like my blog better. To make your image transparent using FIG, click the crown and select either PNG or GIF and set transparency to YES.

Just a little tip - but I picked my text color by clicking the new TEMPLATE DESIGN feature in Blogger. Then I picked a color that was already featured in my blog and copied the # code (I used the link color for mine).

Step 2: Formatting your new signature on your blog
If you used MLS, they have a handy little feature that generates your html code for you. Simply click 'use this signature' link and the 'html' option and then the 'generate your code' and it will pop right up for you. Simple enough!

If you picked FIG or you created your own signature, you will need to save the file and upload it somewhere (ie - photobucket). Once you've done that, you can use the generated html code from photobucket to add the image to your blog.

At this point, I used my most recent blog post to test my new signature. I pasted the code in and hit the preview button. My signature showed up like this:
I hated that stupid little box around it and it took me FOREVER to figure out how to remove it. The box is called a Drop Shadow. And if you don't know html coding, it can take you even longer to figure out how to remove it than it took me. So how can you get rid of it?? By making your html code look like this:

<img src="YOUR IMAGE URL HERE" style="background: transparent; -moz-box-shadow: none; -webkit-box-shadow: none; box-shadow: none;">

So now your signature will show up like this:

Step 3: Setting your signature to automatically add at the bottom of your posts
Want to make it so that you don't need to manually add the signature code at the bottom of your posts every time? That's easy! Simply head over to your Blogger Dashboard, go to Settings and then Formatting. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see a text box. Add your new signatures html code to this box and click save. And that's it! The next new post your create will have the html code already in it. Just click New Post, and type above the html code!

Tackle It Tuesday

I saw this over at 5 Minutes for Mom this morning and thought I'd join in. To find out more about Tackle it Tuesday, check out this post. Basically, you post up your goals for the week on what you want to tackle - no matter how big or small. It doesn't have to be housework, just anything on your To Do list.

What are YOU tackling this week?

My to do list this week includes the following:
  • Finish my fabric backed wedding invitations (and create a tutorial)
  • Finish my dresses for Stoopher & Boots (almost done!)
  • Mail wedding invitations
  • Mail the baby gifts for Creative Minds (she's due any day now!)
  • Finish up some Etsy orders and mail them off
  • Clean the bathroom
  • Finish picking up the living room
  • Clean out the fridge & clean off the counters
  • Wash crayon off the hallway wall
  • Pick up fabric for M's dress for the wedding
  • Burn a minimum of 1400 calories using Wii Fit Plus by Monday evening (that's 200 calories per day)
That's it! I won't put more his list because if I do, I'll never finish it this week!

Meet Jewel

Jewel is a little 4 year old girl from Tennessee who was born premature and suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Even with therapy, she is still unable to walk without surgery. Jewel has had the fortunate event of meeting a doctor at the Saint Louis Children's Hospital who can perform this surgery for her, but they need help getting & staying there. They will be meeting Jewel's doctor on June 21st and she'll be having her surgery on July 6th. It sounds like they have the surgery covered, but the travel costs are going to be a longshot for them.

Jewel's family has set up a website for her here. They are accepting paypal donations and have information about the cookout they are hosting in honor of Jewel (that everyone is invited to).

Auntie Di's De-Lites has a nice little blog entry about Jewel and the fundraiser she is hosting to raise so money to send to Jewel. She is offering to donate $5 from the sale of her Jewel's Hope Candle (you choose the scent) to Jewel's family. If that listing is sold out, please visit her Etsy shop and locate the newest listing.

If you've never purchased a candle from Auntie Di's before, they are FANTASTIC. We've gotten a few now and I'll never switch anywhere else. They last a long time and they smell delicious.

Weekly Weigh In - Week 1

As a part of New Friend Friday (hosted by The Girl Creative), I was commenting on some of the blogs on the linky today and ended up meeting Amy from Marvelous Mommy. Amy is a SAHM of one of the cutest little girls I've ever seen. Anyway, she let me in on her weekly meme - Weekly Weigh In (she was the winner of the Lose It Bitch competition) - and I decided to join in.

Each week I'll be taking my weight & posting it publicly for you all to see. I'm really hoping that it'll help keep me motivated on this journey. I've been struggling to lose some of this excess weight (though, as you can see from my side bar, I have lost a few pounds in the last month). Pre-pregnancy, I typically fluctuated between 115 and 130lbs. At the end of my pregnancy, I was at 199 and I actually GAINED weight post-birth (I was having trouble breastfeeding and the LC told me to try keeping my calories up). I'm not sure what I topped off at, but about a month and a half ago, I was at 211.8 (this is after I had lost some weight). I know I may never reach 115 again and I'm ok with that, but I was DEVASTATED at how much I gained. As of this week, I was weighing in at 203.4 (it's tracked on my wii, so I'll make sure to photograph it for you next time). Now, my wii told me it is absolutely normal for a person's weight to differ by about 2 lbs every day (this was something new to me) and I'm so glad that it did because every time I weighed myself, I couldn't get a handle on WHY my weight was different every day.

Here are my goals...
Starting Weight: 211.8
Current Weight: 203.4
Weight Loss Goal by July 31:  185lbs
Left to Go to Make Goal: 18.4lbs
Weight Loss Goal by October 31: 170lbs
Weight Loss Goal by December 31: 160lbs
Weight Loss Goal by February 28: 140lbs
Other Goals: Drink more water/drink less soda

Anyway, this is my intro post for the Weekly Weigh In and my weight this week was 203.4lbs. Click the button if you'd like to join in...
