Favorite Beachy Finds - Take 2

Here's part 2 of my favorite beachy wedding finds. Don't forget to visit the treasury I created on Etsy.

1. Sand Dollar Stacker Ring by GetNoticed
I think that this ring is adorable and I'd love for it to be one of my wedding accessories! GetNoticed has a few other beachy pieces, but this one is my favorite.
2. Just Married Shabby Wedding Sign by thebackporchshoppe
I would love to have this piece to take some wedding photos with. I think it would be a great beach photo prop!
3. Sea Life Lariat Necklace by madebysam
Madebysam is another one of those jewelers with a ton of pieces I love, but I have to say that this lariat necklace is my favorite. I love that you can have you initial engraved on the little disc and you can choose your stone color.
4. Astoria Circle Favor Tags by maidavale
I love the way these can be used for many things. If you check out the listing, I like how she used them on the favor boxes with the ribbon.

5. Ocean Tranquility Necklace by hamptonjewels
Hamptonjewels is the third jeweler that I had a hard time choosing a favorite piece for, but I settled, yet again, on the starfish piece. I guess I just have a thing for starfish and blue stones. I also love the Starfish Charm Bracelet.
6. Starfish Boutonniere by artseero
I want this piece so badly for J to wear on our wedding day. I think it would look beautiful with his white linen shirt and pants. If you haven't visited artseero's shop yet, they have some of the most beautiful beach wedding pieces. Two of my other favorites are the Flower Girl Seashell Beach Pail and the Seashell Bouquet.
7. Starfish Guest Book Box by cutthecakedesigns
I've never been a fan of the actual guest books, so I love the card idea and I love the beachy design on them, too. I think the cards are great if you have some sort of scrapbooking idea in your head!
8. Seashells & Starfish Stems by ShellScapes
I think that these would be a beautiful addition to a bouquet or centerpiece. ShellScapes has some beautiful hairpieces and cake toppers in her shop, too.

That's all for now. I think next I'll be looking up some wedding favors!

Favorite Beachy Finds - Take 1

In a little under 2 months, I will be standing on the beach saying my wedding vows. Since we waited so long to set a date and then picked one so close, it's crunch time for us and I've been looking everywhere I can for great finds to make our wedding day special. I wanted to share some of my favorites with you guys today (and I'm positive there will be more). Please come visit the treasury I created on Etsy for some of my favorites. I'd also like to explain why I love these particular pieces so much.

1. Starfish & Co. Gulf Water Sterling Silver Earring & Necklace set by seadrops
I think that this set is romantic and beautiful. I absolutely love it and I love that the colors match our wedding invitations. Seadrops has a ton of beautiful pieces that I would love to own. Two of my other favorite pieces are the Pink Sands necklace and the Seahorse necklace.
2. White Starfish Headband by Landlocked Mermaids
This headband is gorgeous! I think that the other way I could possibly love it more would be if the headband itself were white. I think that if it were, it would match my dress perfectly! LandlockedMermaids also has many other beautiful hairpieces available in their shop.
3. Beach Wedding Bridal Bouquet by AmoreBride
AmoreBride has gorgeous bouquets and boutonnieres for sale, but this piece is my absolute favorite!I love the simplicity and the splashes of color.
4. Sand Dollar Felt Hair Accessory by OrdinaryMommy
I would LOVE to have this piece to put in the little monster's hair for the wedding.

5. Beach Love Shell 8x10 Photograph by eternalimages
I have always loved this piece by eternalimages. It's simple, classic and elegant.
6. Neptune's Cove Necklace by jetaimeboutique
Seahorses are one of the few creatures in the world that mate for life. To me, they symbolize eternal love and that is why we chose two of them to appear on our wedding invitations. I think that's why I love this necklace so much, too.
7. Starfish Save the Date Magnets by AngelEllie
I love how detailed these magnets are! They appear to be well made and they have a nice crisp look to them.
8. Beach Trinkets Headband by SmallGirlDesign
I'm absolutely in love with this piece. I love the way the 'trinkets' complement each other and the clean design. I also like that it wouldn't overwhelm the head and become the 1 thing everyone sees.

I don't want to overwhelm you guys, so I'm going to stop here for now and I'll tell you why I love the other 8 a little later!

Teach Me Tuesday - Spinach & Mozzarella Scrambled Eggs

Our eggs were getting close to the expiration date the other day, so I whipped up this simple, but easy meal.

INGREDIENTS:
Eggs (I used 6 for the 3 of us)
Shredded Mozzarella
1 package of frozen spinach
1 tbs margarine/butter
Salt, pepper, onion, garlic powders

1. Heat up the margarine on your frying pan and toss in your frozen spinach. Cook until there is no more ice/chunks of spinach. While this is cooking, scramble your eggs in a bowl with a little salt & pepper.
2. Add eggs to spinach. Mix in the mozzarella, as desired.
3. Add seasonings and continue cooking until eggs are thoroughly done.

And that's it! I paired ours with some steamed broccoli and bagels with butter.

Do you think she liked it?

It's just a little something I whipped up....

The Girl Creative

I love this picture.

It's actually a knot dress, but it's a little big on her, so I tied a bow in the back instead. I LOVE it! I think that she does, too. I still need to list this on Etsy, but I call it my Hey There Delilah dress. The main lemon fabric is Juicy by Alexander Henry and I'm not usually a fan of orange, but I love this dress so much.

I love this one, too.

Super Mom? I think not...

Sometimes I feel like I am a terrible role model/mom for the little one. I know that it's just because of my new weekday schedule and all the stress I've been feeling, but I really can't help it. I come home from a long day and the apartment is a mess and I just hate myself for it. Yeah, yeah, having a new baby means you can slack off a bit - especially when you work full time, but how do those other mothers do it?? I find that if I don't take time off work, nothing ever gets done and the place just keeps getting messier.

What are your secrets to keeping a clean home?

30 Day Shred: Days 8 & 9

I haven't been feeling very feel this week and to top it all off, the Apricot has been waking up in the middle of the night (which, on top of my waking up at 5, is not helping), so I've really slacked off this week. I only did about 1 and a half full days of the 30 day shred, but I'm counting it as 2 days anyway. I say half because the Monster was 'working out' with me one day and she thought it was hysterical to try to put her xylophone ON me while I was trying to do crunches.

You can't see it, but she's holding a little 3lbs weight in her hands and was trying to do squats with it (Jillian wanted us to do squat and presses haha). It was really cute. Needless to say, I didn't get quite the work out I had been. I must tell you that even on the days I don't work out with Jillian, I do do SOME kind of work out - even if it's only for 5 or 10 minutes. If I missed my morning 20 minutes, I'll do some cardio (usually punches) in my office or a rep of crunches before bed.... anything to get something in. Like last Saturday... I didn't work with Jillian, but I did chase a toddler around the zoo for 2.5 hours.

With that being said, I have been making progress!
STARTING WEIGHT: 211.6
CURRENT WEIGHT: 204.2
TOTAL LOSS TO DATE: 7.4lbs
TOTAL LOSS LEFT TO GO (by 7/24/10): 32.6

STARTING MEASUREMENTS: 44 - 37.5 - 46.5 - 29 (the fourth measurement is thigh)
CURRENT MEASUREMENTS: 43 - 35.5 - 46.5 - 28.5
MEASUREMENT LOSS TO DATE: 1 - 2 - 0 - .5

TOTAL DAYS USING 3DS: 9
TOTAL DAYS SINCE BEGINNING: 17

MOST NOTABLE CHANGE: Today I am able to see that my 'abs' are becoming more defined. If I stretch my arms up, I can see the 2 side lines and if I pull in my stomach, I can see that the top 2 rows are very clearly defined. So once I get my stomach down, I should be able to see more of them more easily!

Not bad, right??

A Day in the Life

Jesse started a new job a few weeks ago and ever since, I've been feeling very stressed. There is very little time during the day for me to get the things I need to get done done. His new job has him on his feet all day and when he comes home, he is ready to relax. If I, on the other hand, 'relax' for one day after work, I'm swamped the next day.

Here is a typical day for me...

5:00-5:15AM - wake up
5:15-5:35 - work out
5:40-5:50 - shower
5:50-6:30 - get dressed, get the monster dressed, feed the monster, pack monster's lunch
6:30-7:30 - drop Jesse & the monster off at work & school (respectively), take myself to work
7:30-3:45 - work
3:45-5:30 - pick up Jesse & the monster (unless he works OT, in which case it's  M and then J)
5:30-6:30 - arrive home (time depends on if J worked until 4 or 6)
6:00-7:00 - cook & eat dinner
7:00-8:00 - spend time with the Monster (coloring, books, bath, etc)
8:00-9:00 - either 1 hour of tv or another hour of work, depending on the day of the week
9:00PM-1:00AM - make sure the baby is asleep and tucked in, feed cats, put dinner stuff away, clean

Then I go to bed and do it all over the next day. Do you know how hard it is to wake up at 5 to work out when you only went to bed at 12 or 1 the night before? If I don't follow the schedule, I either miss my work out time or I miss cleaning. Either way, I feel like crap the next day. Sunday night, I freaked out and ended up cleaning until 1. Then the monster woke up at 4:00 (from what I can only assume was either teething or a bad dream). By the time she fell back to sleep, it was time for me to wake up for the day. Needless to say, I was very cranky.

Encouraging Words

Today I came across a really interesting blog entry at I'm Just a Girl Telling My Story.

When I was younger, my mother used to have us 'church hop'. Every year, she decided to cycle through a different religion in the Christian realm. One year she was Catholic, then Presbyterian, then Methodist... etc. This drove me insane. It got really bad the year she became a born-again. She became very hypocritical & judgmental (and still is).

Right before I graduated high school and during the first 2 years of college, I really started to lose my faith. I've always had a pretty tough life, being forced to deal with things I shouldn't have had to face until I was much older, but I handled it and I moved on. It got to the point though where I didn't know what to believe anymore. I told my mother this once and she told me I was a sinner and going to hell for questioning God. That's when I reminded her that God loves everyone, even the sinners, and that that's what last repentance is for. Needless to say, she was not thrilled with my answer and we've never spoken about religion since.

The one thing my mother was the most worried about was that I would never teach any of my children about God. Now, while I may not be a firm believer and I don't go to church every Sunday, that doesn't mean I think my kids should follow in my footsteps. The Little Monster may only be 15 months old and we may have only taken her to church once, but we do have children's books about Jesus and praying that we read to her and we do intend to have her baptized and take her to Sunday school.

This leads me back to the blog post I first mentioned. It references Susannah Wesley's 16 Rules of Parenting. There are some of them that I don't agree with and some that I do and I'll tell you why....

1. Eating between meals not allowed.
I disagree. I have never been the type of person to eat 3 set meals a day and the US is like the only country that does this anyway. And in fact, the pediatricians tell you that kids need 3-4 meals per day AND 3-4 snacks a day. Kids stomachs are so much smaller than adults and they need to be filled more often. I actually think everyone should eat 5-6 times per day, but smaller portions. This is how I used to eat and I was the healthiest I had ever been.

2. As children they are to be in bed by 8 p.m.

Again, I disagree. I don't think that a child should go to bed at any time they want - that's just ridiculous, but a children's sleep schedules are different. My daughter often doesn't fall asleep until closer to 9, but we do start having quiet time around 7:30 or so. We calm down and read a book, take a bath or watch an episode of Sesame Street.

3. They are required to take medicine without complaining.

Why does it have to be without complaining? Some medicine is absolutely disgusting. I agree they need to take it without a fight, but if it tastes nasty, it tastes nasty. I'd complain, too.

4. Subdue self- will in a child, and those working together with God to save the child's soul.

I half agree with this. I do believe that a child needs to be taught self-control, responsibility and wisdom. To expand of Susannah's rule, she goes on to say "The parent who indulges it does the devil's work, makes religion impossible, salvation unattainable, and does all that in him lies to damn his child, soul and body forever." This I don't agree with. I believe a child should be taught to be an independent, free thinker who is capable of making their own decisions. I do not believe that a child should be taught to do everything they're told without questioning. Should a kid listen to their parents? Yes, of course. Should that child do every single thing an adult figure tells them to? No, never. This not only stiffens their creativity and independence, but it stops them from thinking for themselves.

5. To teach a child to pray as soon as he can speak.

This I agree with - no questions asked. And I agree that they should read the bible as soon as they can read.

6. Require all to be still during Family Worship.

Ehhh, questionable. Everyone should be free to worship in their own way. Should they be silent during a prayer at a meal? Yes, of course.

7. Give them nothing that they cry for, and only that when asked for politely.

I agree.

8. To prevent lying, punish no fault which is first confessed and repented of.

In most cases, I agree with this. Though if it's something like.... they stole something from the store and then confessed it to me, I would make them return it.

9. Never allow a sinful act to go unpunished.

Sometimes you have to give children a little leeway...

10. Never punish a child twice for a single offense.

Yes, I definitely agree with this.

11. Comment and reward good behavior.

Agreed.

12. Any attempt to please, even if poorly performed, should be commended.

Definitely, it should be commended and encouraged.

13. Preserve property rights, even in smallest matters.

Not necessarily... If I have 2 kids and one has this new toy and the other doesn't, I'm a firm believer that they should share.

14. Strictly observe all promises.

Yes, most definitely.

15. Require no daughter to work before she can read well.

I disagree. All things need to be taught - from reading to taking out the trash to washing windows to coloring in the lines. Just because they can't read well doesn't mean you shouldn't teach them other things at the same time. And why does this rule only apply to girls? A boy doesn't need to be able to read to do work? That's a little sexist.

16. Teach children to fear the rod.

No, never. I am not a fan of corporal punishment.

15 months and counting

The Monster turned 15 months on the 6th, which meant is was time for another well visit. She & I headed over to the pediatrician yesterday (Daddy had to work) and she was actually really excited. In fact, I've never seen her so excited for the doctors. Our pediatrician's office is a practice with 5 rotating doctors. We've seen 3 of them now and this newest one, she really liked. I think if we don't get him again in August, I'm going to request him. I like that he played with her, talked to her and made her laugh. I also like that he explained everything to me, answered my questions, diagnosed her 'dry skin' on her back as eczema (I've been asking about it every time we go there, he's the first to give any advice) and he made sure I was happy. The perfect pediatrician!

He was very pleased with the Princess, remarking that she's already hit most of her 18mos milestones and some of her 24mos ones. He even went out to look at the fish in the lobby with her. The doctor said her growing (tallness) has slowed down a little bit, but she's still over the 90th percentile for height (31.75") and she in the 82nd percentile for weight (25lbs 13.2oz). He also mentioned that he couldn't tell if her congestion is due to allergies or a cold (I hadn't even thought to ask), but he said if she has the congestion for over a month, it's likely allergies. <3 I really hope that we get him again August.

Just Something I Whipped Up Monday

I've decided to join in Just Something I Whipped Up Monday - featured on The Girl Creative - this week.

The Girl Creative

I made the Little Monster a new pair of overalls this weekend. No pattern was used, just something I 'whipped up'. :) They're a little big for her, but I'm very pleased with how they turned out (they're a 2T in the new pattern I'm writing). I'd still like to add a big pocket on the front of them.

She wasn't too pleased that I interrupted Elmo for a photo shoot. haha.

New Friend Friday

The Girl Creative

Happy Friday!!
My question this week - what are your mother's day plans??

We don't have any set plans, but J did say he's going to clean the apartment for me! Isn't he sweet?? I'm thinking maybe we'll try to go to the zoo again, too.

30 Day Shred: Days 6 & 7

I'm really starting to feel it in my core. My left leg is still sore, so I've been doing a lot of punches instead of a lot of the jumping. I have to say that even though I'm subbing a lot of the exercises for other things that Jillian does in the video, I really feel like I'm making progress. I still get winded during the work out and have to take breaks, but they are becoming shorter and further apart. Today I only had to take 1 break for about 30 seconds (1 cardio rep).

My weight is also now down to around 208! woohoo! And that's in only a little over a week (today was day 7 of the video, but I started 10 days ago).

Total Weight Loss to Date: 2.8 lbs

30 Day Shred: Days 4 & 5

I skipped the video this weekend because we spent several hours Saturday walking around the zoo which I constitute as a work out. I took Sunday as my 2nd day off this week.

Monday, I started back up with Jillian. My left leg was really sore, so I had to substitute different cardio work outs for the ones that required a lot of jumping. I think all the up hill walking on Saturday did me in. I did manage to do the rest of the exercises though and got in my whole 20 minutes.

I'm really starting to feel it in my shoulders and hips today. Also, a little in my lower back and ab area. The scale hasn't gone down any more yet, but I do notice that my engagement ring is looser this week than it was last.

Total Weight Loss to Date: 1.5 lbs

Zoo

Yesterday, we took the Little Monster to the zoo for the first time. It was hot, but fun! She enjoyed the monkeys and giraffes the most.

Here she is right after we bought our season passes...

Daddy & M looking at the monkeys

My little bumblebee

Petting the goats
Me and the Monster

After the zoo, we headed over to CiCi's, since we'd never been there before. I was very surprised that she was free to get in - I expected to pay the kid's price. The pizza wasn't too bad either. She liked it and that's what mattered. I was expecting her to be beat by the time we got home, but it was quite the contrary! She was actually very hyper and the first thing she did was pick up her 'Huckle's Good Manners' book and start reading to herself.

My little girl is growing up. <3
