Movin' On Up

I took the little Monster to school this morning and was told that starting next week she'll be transitioning into the class above her (called First Steps). This is exciting for us! I was reading over the paper they gave us about the things they'll be working on with her - these include using 2 word phrases, trying to sing, putting puzzles together, showing a hand preference, eating with utensils, walking up and down stairs, smelling flowers, etc. Now these are things I practice with her every day, but I find it's a really big help having teachers who actively work on these things with the children, too. It's a big relief that she's not just at a daycare where they let her sit and watch tv all day (no tv at all at her school!). I'm not one of those parents who doesn't let their kid watch tv, but it's nice to know she's active. When I work from home (I'm an IT tech for those of you who don't know) and I need to make a phone call, I have no issues putting her in her room with her toys and turning on Sesame Street or Little Einsteins. She actually likes the tv on for the music, but she doesn't usually watch it (though she does know how to turn it on and off now, it's quite annoying when we're trying to watch House or Chuck and the princess comes and turns it off during the most interesting parts. haha).

First Steps is the classroom where the kids (there are only 8 kids in the class and 2 teachers) only take 1 nap and they use a nap mat/sleeping bag instead of a crib. So now I need to step it up and start working on her lunch boxes and her nap mat - since she'll need it for Monday! I chose the Love Your Lunch Box Bag by Ginia18 for her.
Isn't it cute? I have already cut the pieces, they just need to be sewn together. I think I'm going to need to make her 2 of them though - 1 for breakfast and morning snack and 1 for lunch and afternoon snack.

Ok, I need to vent

Sometimes I feel like no matter what I do and no matter how hard I work, it really just doesn't matter. J and I got our tax returns back recently, only to find out that the majority of it is spoken for.... and not what I intended it for. My biggest qualm is the $350 that needs to go to DirectTV. If you have a choice, NEVER go with DTV. They are the worst company ever. We signed up for a 1 year lease and they changed it to a 2 year without telling us AND they never had us sign any contracts. Yet, my complaints to the BBB (and multiple other governmental agencies) went unheeded - even after their "Support Rep Manager' from the 'Office of the President' told me to go f- myself. We still have a lot of doctor's bills to pay for the little one, too. We had to take her to the Children's Hospital back in July to have her heart checked out (she has a strange clicking that they don't know what it is).

Then there's J. His job doesn't provide him with health or dental insurance, but it appears that his teeth are falling out and I'm beginning to believe that he may have an infection (he's been complaining of a bad smell and a sinus infection for several months now). Yet, we can't afford to get him health insurance either. We've checked out the local dental schools, but there's nothing that can help him out. We actually need to take him to an orthodontist and have him checked out. How are we going to afford that? Now to top it off, he was promised a raise and a promotion at his job and come to find out, they went behind everyone's backs and are hiring outside the company instead. So instead of the raise, he's going to have his hours cut. So what are we supposed to do now? I don't want him to wait much longer to see the dentist, but at the same time, we barely have enough to cover our bills and food each month. I tried talking to my employer about it, but it seems there's just nothing he can do - our company's dental insurance doesn't cover anything more than cleanings (and I make 'too much' for him to be able to apply for governmental assistance).

So I'm stuck and have no one to discuss it with. I can't talk to J because it makes him really upset. I'm estranged from my mother (LONG story) and my father was never around. His family, you ask? His father passed away a little over a year ago and now his mother's lost their house and needs to find a new place to move by the end of the month (she's had several months to look). So there's no one for me to turn to to talk with or vent to or even ask for a loan from and it's been making me very.... depressed, I guess. Here's hoping I find my fairy godmother soon to help us find our way out of this terrible situation.

Ladybug Ladybug Fly Away Home - Giveaway! [CLOSED]

I recently bought some adorable little hair clips from Bowquet's Shop over at Etsy. This isn't the first time I've ordered from her nor will it be the last. The shop's owner, E, makes the cutest little things and they're such good quality! Even with my toddler pulling at them all day (she loves to take it out and try to put it back in), they still stay together and look great! If you saw Madison's birthday outfit, the little hair bow was a Bowquet creation and it matched PERFECTLY!

Bowquet is having an awesome sale this week - free shipping on all Valentine's day bows, with guaranteed shipping within 24 hours! Madison has one like this, which we love:

Happy Birthday, Little Monster!

Saturday was the little one's 1st birthday. We had to cancel her party because we got almost 2 feet of snow between Friday night and Saturday afternoon. I was absolutely devastated, and I'm still really upset. What kind of mother can't give her daughter a birthday party, especially her first one?? I really wanted it to be special. Anyway, we ended up snowed in all day Saturday (here it is Monday and half the roads still aren't plowed/salted and we're expecting another foot by Wednesday). So, I made her some cupcakes - strawberry with lemon icing - YUM. We all loved them (we made them with a can of sprite instead of the oil and eggs, it makes them so nice and fluffy).

Friday night, we managed to get the monster's pictures done right before the snow started (thank goodness). They came out beautifully! She wore the dress & bloomers I made you (that I think came out very nice, even though it was my first time making her a whole outfit!).

Happy birthday to my sweet, little princess!

The dress pattern is the Maya Peasant Dress from Romeo&Mae. It was so easy and if you have a little girl who wears 1-5T, I highly recommend this pattern! There were 8 pieces total and I modified it a little bit because M's not quite in 1T yet (it came down to her ankles). So I shortened it and now it comes down to her knees (when the bloomers aren't on). The bloomers are from a McCall's pattern that I bought last year and I just added ruffles to them myself. <3
